When should the test be performed?
LC-MS/MS – M-Typer is an innovative diagnostic method that uses high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and atypical mycobacteria. Indications for performing the test include:

  • Suspected pulmonary or extrapulmonary tuberculosis
  • Diagnosis of atypical mycobacterial infections in patients with symptoms suggestive of mycobacteriosis
  • Rapid species-level identification of isolated mycobacteria
  • Diagnostics in cases where conventional microbiological methods yield inconclusive results
  • Analysis of mycolic acid structures in scientific and epidemiological studies

Test description
The LC-MS/MS – M-Typer method enables detailed analysis of mycolic acids, which are unique components of the mycobacterial cell wall. This technology allows for:

  • Sensitive and specific identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and atypical mycobacteria
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of mycolic acids, providing precise information about their length and structure
  • Rapid diagnostics without the need for lengthy bacterial cultures
  • Classification of mycobacteria to the species level based on their lipid profile
